Meet the Team
Hi! I’m Cindy Hanisch, owner and lead trainer at Black Dog Training, LLC.
I began training dogs at age 11 with my family dog, a Samoyed. I earned my first AKC obedience (CD) title with that dog. Since then, I have competed with several dogs and earned AKC titles in obedience, rally and agility.
For the past 10 years, I have coached many dogs and their owners in canine obedience and agility. During that time, I’ve worked with a variety of breeds, ranging in ages from 7 weeks to 13 years. These dogs have had a wide range of personalities & struggles, and I have been able to help them and their owners enjoy easier lives together.
In addition to my hands-on experience, I am a registered American Kennel Club (AKC) evaluator for Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and STAR Puppy. I also attend several workshops per year, that focus on dog behavior and training methods.
My Training Philosophy
I use a positive reward-based training method combined with creative problem solving. My training philosophy centers on the belief that both humans and canines should enjoy the process and that training is a lifelong commitment between owner and dog.

The Black Dog Story
Black Dog Training is named in honor of my little black dog, Chester, a cockapoo. He is an absolute delight to be with, finding new ways each day to amuse me. He loves to be the center of attention by entertaining people, and I really enjoy the special bond I have with him. It has inspired me to help others develop a special bond with their own canine friends.
Chester has acquired many titles, ribbons, medals, and trophies in obedience, rally, and agility. Chester has a MACH (Master Agility Champion), 2 PACHs (Preferred Agility Champion), GN (Graduate Novice - competition obedience), RI (Rally Intermediate) and several other awards.
Chester is an active participant at Black Dog Training, assisting in obedience demonstrations during classes, so you will definitely get a chance to meet him!
When I am not helping customers enjoy easier lives with their dogs, Chester and I compete in obedience, rally, and agility events.
